It is Wednesday and a sense of uncertainty and pessimism is in the air. I am trying to analyse why I am feeling this way. I experience a growing lack of motivation which places my studies and online business down the preference list allowing watching tv and afternoon naps to run to the top! I come to the conclusion that the very thing that stood in my way to work on my online business and learning coaching is the culprit. The job. The dreadful 9-5, the awful Monday mornings. How is it the killer of your dreams becomes something that you miss?
Well to understand this you have to realise that 9-5 thats all most of us know. I was never away from work for more that 4 weeks. Its is hardwired in my brain and to make it work I will need to take a few steps.
Step #1 – be clear on your vision. You can work your way to you goal or you can create a big and glowing image of where you want to be. This image will attract you to it – instead of doing all the pushing you will be pulled to it. (Like a a rare Neodymium magnet for the geeky types). Work on your vision daily – include it in your morning routine. Make an image that will make you smile and filled with joy. If you are not in love with your image – change it!
Step #2 Create a routine. Your willpower is a finite resource that will get depleted over time. And then you sleep and eat and you back to normal but it will take a few hours. The solution is to build your habits using will power and let them carry your workload for you. Think of riding a bike or speaking on the phone while you are driving. (Please dont do that it will get you in trouble). Obviously you need to create good habits that will get your to your Big Vision. Capture your daily tasks in a calendar or your to-do tool of choice. I personally use iCal and Remember the milk tools.
Step# 3 Surround yourself wiht like minded people or using Napoleon Hills language – a master group. It serves a couple of purposes. Firstly humans are social beings that crave interaction with other humans. Joe Rogan in his last stand up was saying even in the prisons with a concentration of high profile criminals the worst that penitentiary system can do to place a person to an isolation cell. Secondly your mastermind group will keep you focused on your interest and will help you when you are feeling down. Please return the favour to your fellow members its a give and take!
Step #4 Create an environment where you can be most productive. If you cant afford an office outside of your house make a changes to your study corner. It will create a habit of going into – I am working please do not disturb me mode. It can be a small thing such as placing your printed goals on your desk . Yes – you should have your goals printed.
A challenge is only a challenge and not a show stopper. Making a decision to leave your job to start a new life is only the first step in your life design. There will be more challenges along the way and thats what makes it exciting!
